Passionate Registered Dietitian
My focus as a registered dietitian has been on weight management, diabetes management, and cardiovascular nutrition. I provide individual nutritional counseling for patients seeking weight loss (pre- and post-bariatric surgery), couples programs as well as lead a weekly support group. Whether your goal is weight management or simply to lower high blood pressure, I have a solution for you.

My main professional goal is to provide my patients with the most up-to-date, research-supported nutrition recommendations in an easy-to-understand and practical way. My emphasis remains on preventative nutritional therapy using the Mediterranean diet, but includes non-dieting lifestyle change and behavior modification tailored to each my patient's individual needs.

Throughout the years of my practice, I have created special recipes for my clients - conventional recipes that I've adjusted for a low-fat benefit, a low calorie benefit, etc. The core of the diet could be referred to as the Lyon Heart diet (or Mediterranean diet), and typically incorporates abundant plant foods, fruit, vegetables, legumes, low-fat dairy products, and lean proteins (fish and poultry) for an Omega 3 boost.

The Perfect Day follows this model and provides ninety recipes - thirty breakfasts, thirty lunches and thirty dinners - and takes all the guess-work out of healthy cooking and healthy eating. All of these healthy recipes include nutrition information, serving suggestions, and tips to make "cooking light" fast and convenient.

These simple and easy recipes are an excellent addition to any weight loss program, because I'm an expert at recipe modification and new recipe development without sacrificing flavor! I actually eat these recipes, as do my patients, but the proof is in this pudding: so do my two sons! So the bottom line is they work well and they taste great!

I discovered early on in my career that the key to getting a client to stick to their diet was to incorporate their favorite foods into their meal plan. If you love chocolate cake, then we'll get you some chocolate cake! It's all about balancing the food you love with the food you need.

Our goal will be to create a tasty meal plan for you while accommodating any food allergies, medical conditions, vegetarian and vegan preferences and religious preferences. I have helped patients lose weight with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, adolescent nutrition, obesity, heart disease, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and hypertension. I've created customized meal plans for everything from diabetes to meal plans that are simply healthy eating.

Nanette received her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Eastern Michigan University in 1995. During this time she completed her coordinated undergraduate program at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She has been commissioned on the Dietetic Registration for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics since 1995. Nanette is the founder of her practice Nutrition First, and is engaged as the Director of Dietetics at UnaSource Comprehensive Weight Loss Center in Troy, Michigan.
